For years, I couldn’t bear to listen to Tony’s voice in his music. Music was his life; it was his language, his heartbeat. To hear it felt like I was immersed in the absence. But now, I can fully hold the duality—the ache and the beauty, the grief and the love. As I do dishes now, listening to his voice and being fully present with it, I look back at how I used to get so bothered by what the world had to say. The comments, the “it’s not healthy,” the “you have to let go,” the “he needs to rest in peace”—oh, if I had a penny… I actually let it affect me in the beginning. I doubted myself. I wondered if maybe I was doing something wrong. But here’s the truth: for those of us grieving someone we never wanted to live one day without, staying connected to them isn’t optional. It’s non-negotiable. Staying connected to them is second nature—and second best to them being physically here. Each memory, each thread of love, each quiet moment of remembering—they are treasures, not something to apologize for or hide. I know not everyone finds comfort in connecting to their person in tangible ways, and that’s totally okay. But for those of you who do, this continued connection is life-giving. It honors what you loved and always will, who you loved and always will, and the heart that continues to beat quietly alongside yours, even in physical absence. And yes…it looks different than what the world expects. Sometimes it feels “weird” or “uncomfortable” to others. But to us, it is sacred. It is love in motion, and the gift that keeps on giving. This is one of many ways I connect with and to my husband. In the little moments, the ordinary moments, the moments that are quietly sacred. And that’s why I cherish these threads of continued connection so deeply. How about you, love? What are some tangible ways you remain connected to your person? What moments or rituals help you honor their presence and love? I’d love to read in the comments whatever you’re comfortable sharing. Sending you all of my love🌻 Katherine 🩷 #griefawareness #griefandloss #widowsoftiktok #griefislove #copingwithgrief
