Depends how long the hike, day or half a day hike… Taobao is fine. 1-2weeks kind, better get something proper with back support/compartments and good straps. The last thing u want are the straps tearing mid hike.

there are definitely good hiking gear on taobao. proper chinese brands on taobao like naturehike, mobigarden and 3fulgear have decent hiking bags. but the hiking bags that cost $30 definitely wont be good and probably lack key features like good ventilation and low self weight. your best bet is honestly decathlon because you can try them on and they are very worth the money. you can even return the gear if you have a decathlon account if the bag doesnt fit you well. you can get the osprey in the future if this becomes your thing!

Decathlon has quality stuff at much lower prices. And the quality of their stuff is good. Esp if you r not going to hike often, doesn’t make sense to spend that much

What kind of terrain? Like hardcore hiking? 😅 I prefer the ones with ergonomics padding. My back hurts easily if its not comfortable

I guess it's fine. The expensive ones are better designed and built. Not a huge advantage but QoL, like water bottle can be tucked away through a slot near the hip, like bruh damm useful. Dont cheap out on boots though, known brands like Lowa, Scarpa, La sportiva. Salomon is bought by Chinese company, so I avoid them.

Molle backpacks on taobao are great for hiking and camping, but the main problem with cheaper bags comes when there’s water involved - either rain or when you have to camp in a wet/muddy environment. Cheaper bags can become waterlogged (heavy!) and take extra long to dry, while also chafing at friction points. Molle bags are great if you can handle the weight and do your waterproofing properly though. Also try to get your Aura on Carousell, i see an older gen but new 65L AG Aura going for S$180 right now

don’t compromise quality when you need to rely on it. when you actually hike, you will thank yourself for getting quality over cheapness. i got an Osprey HikeLite 28 for $180(?) and i think that should be good enough

they say you should buy your pack last after planning the list of items you want to store. Osprey is quality though but decathlon not too bad. Bought trekking shoes from AliExpress, really quite good! If u go regularly and want to go those exotic nature spots, I think the investment is worth

to me the harness system makes a the biggest difference, you’d want something that’s body hugging, adjustable yet breathable. osprey has good mesh systems that work that way, like their airscape panels. also, you can try wildholics, it’s a hk website called that i bought 2 bags from, the 65l atmos and 36l stratos. and buying the right size bag for your needs will help reduce costs, don’t need to buy too big bags
