As soon as I see a male name I put the book back now. I'm so tired of horribly written female characters. Women manage to write male characters with depth and character, so why do men write such flat and boring women?

So very odd. Never have I picked up a book and thought ‘I’m not reading it if a man has written it’ I only care about the contents.

absolutely there is few reasons why J.k Rawling changed her name for detective series

I haven't read a book by a man for the past 10 years. 30 more years, and we are even.💅

see some female friends were talking about how they only read books written by women the other day. and now I seen this post, and I can tell you men don't think like you do. we read the books we like the look of and we don't care about the author. I feel like women are projecting here

I have had a man annoyed that reading was one of my hobbies because “reading is a gendered hobby”. Maybe it is… but I wonder how these stats work to make it a “gendered hobby”

jk rowling once got the entire world to read her books. maybe the gender isnt relevant or maybe women need to explore more various subjects, not just romance

JK Rowling was told to use initials instead of Joanne, or else boys won’t read her books. And they say we have equality now.

As an avid sci-fi reader 4 years ago I started choosing books by women, WoC, or from the LGBTQIA community, particularly with characters from those same categories. Was fed up with the cis white male perspective. It’s been enlightening to say the least.

They do this because they don't think our opinions or writings are important. They don't see us as important enough to need to know us, our feelings, and our thoughts. They just want to use and drain us in their service.

I don't care at all who wrote the book... if it's good I'll read it? I read the entire Harry potter series as a kid/teen and never once thought 'oh no i shouldn't read this because i'm a boy and Harry potter was written by a woman' I loved Enid Blytons books as a kid. I also absolutely loved Astrid Lindgren's stories. 😐 Gender is not a factor for me like at all when choosing what to read.

I’m not exclusively reading women authors to even things out, it’s that I don’t think I have anything I can learn from men. Supporting women is part of it, but men don’t have the perspective I appreciate and most are still writing from a patriarchal and yt supremacist lens.

I remember at uni, all our lecturers said to initial our own name, so men have no idea you’re a woman.

So many people commenting without listening to what you say 💀 The only male author i'm still actively reading from is a fantasy author from my country who I've been reading from since my childhood. He's not public about his identity and the themes in his books are never predatory (or even sexual tbh), so it's really the only male author I've found consistently enjoyable.

They never get to read books by women in school even. It’s all catcher in the rye and other shit books. More books by men are considered “classics”. If they read better books in school and it was normalized to read female author, POC authors, it would help. Not change everything, but it would make a difference. Allowing them to date pick it up.
