I feel like most people don’t know the difference between bacteria and viruses, therefore, they don’t understand that antibiotics don’t work for viruses because they aren’t truly living

I got strep throat on easter Sunday and had to go the the ER. The rapid came back negative had to fight the doctors to give me meds cause I knew it was strep throat, they called me on Monday saying keep taking the meds cause you have strep throat 🤦🏻♀️

My mom made me get antibiotics for EVERYTHING. Everytime my daughter gets sick she just tells me to get an antibiotic. That's not how it works!

There is a different scenario for this as well. Each time that I’ve had strep, I ALWAYS test negative on the rapid strep test. They still send the test out for cultures and it comes back positive for strep and then it’s a couple days later and the strep is full blown with no antibiotics

Thanks for fighting the good fight. In primary care it’s a little “easier” because I have long term relationships with families so they learn early on that we’re not giving abx for viruses, but saving them for bacteria 😅
