If apartheid never happened and or black people got equal opportunities, Africa would be waaay too advanced honestly.

When I was in grade 1, there was a camera crew at my house following my brother around while he got ready for school. Every time I see documentaries like this I wonder if it’s not that. That thing never aired on national tv, I wonder what happened to the footage

"Without plumbing and electricity" they swear the government was better but we had less than the bear minimum and needed permits to go to stadiums

The only difference now is that we can physically move anywhere. But the reality is, segregation persists. We were conditioned to believe education would unlock opportunities, but it's clear that certain groups are still favored. They don't struggle to find jobs like we do, and even when they don't work, they're supported by systems built on colonial privilege. The wage gap keeps us from accessing the same spaces, and essentially, not much has changed. We've just adopted new language to mask the truth. The underlying dynamics remain the same – they hold power, wealth, and privilege, while we're left to navigate the margins

No tarred roads and access to clean water and electricity in an urban area …. But you will hear them say “oh but before 1994” 🙄 if you do 20% of your job excellently and neglect 80% of your responsibilities you would get fired! Apartheid was a crime against humanity, it really irks me that some have the gaul to try and defend it 😞

The fact that I wore that uniform wrote on a slate and carried plastic to carry my books. Apartheid is not as old as we are made to believe. I always tell my kids I was born in an apartheid South Africa. Today carrying a school bag is normal but our freedom is still so very new. Our people died for it but now we face systematic oppression.
