Reports say tension has surfaced between Joe Buck and Troy Aikman over their contracts. Buck reportedly received a six-year, $108 million extension, while Aikman’s five-year, $90 million deal is nearing expiration. Is ESPN planning to move on from Aikman? Do they expect him to take a pay cut? Or is this another questionable management decision? I’ve watched ESPN since it launched in 1979. I remember the glory days, when fans couldn’t wait to watch SportsCenter and ESPN truly was the Worldwide Leader in Sports! But over the last six or seven years, Monday Night Football has struggled with broadcasting changes, declining prestige and disappointing viewership. Outside of live games, ESPN offers very little that interests me anymore. Some longtime fans now mockingly call it the Worldwide Leader in Woke instead of the Worldwide Leader in Sports. That’s how far its reputation has fallen. 🏈 BUCK AND AIKMAN BROUGHT CREDIBILITY BACK! For years, Monday Night Football struggled to find the right broadcast team. Then, in 2022, ESPN finally got something right by bringing in Joe Buck and Troy Aikman! Together, they restored professionalism, chemistry, knowledge and credibility to Monday Night Football. Aikman is a three-time Super Bowl champion, Hall of Fame quarterback and veteran broadcaster with nearly 25 years of NFL television experience. And here’s what I love about him: He isn’t afraid to criticize! Bad quarterback decision? He calls it. Terrible coaching decision? He questions it. Too many broadcasters spend their time praising everybody. Sometimes football fans deserve honest criticism! 📺 THEN ESPN DECIDES TO COMPETE WITH ITSELF! After finally getting Buck and Aikman, ESPN also has Peyton and Eli Manning broadcasting the exact same game on the ManningCast. Hold on a cotton-pickin’ minute! You’ve got three Hall of Fame quarterbacks—Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning—competing for viewers during the same football game. Why would you divide your own audience between two productions of the same game while paying multiple broadcast teams and production crews? Why not schedule two Monday night games when possible? Let Buck and Aikman call one while Peyton and Eli handle the other. Two games. Two audiences. More football! I understand the ManningCast offers something different, but is the added expense worth dividing your audience? 💰 TROY AIKMAN DESERVES RESPECT! Joe Buck deserves his extension, but so does Troy Aikman. These two have worked together since 2002. You don’t casually break up a partnership that helped restore credibility to Monday Night Football. 🔥 AMAZON PRIME, ARE YOU LISTENING? What if Amazon pursued Aikman for Thursday Night Football and paired him with Al Michaels? Now we’re talking! I’ve never been a big fan of Kirk Herbstreit calling NFL games. I believe he’s better suited to college football. Aikman’s NFL knowledge, experience and willingness to criticize could bring something special to Thursday nights. Amazon’s pregame show could use some adjustments, too! 🏈 ESPN, WAKE UP! You spent years trying to restore Monday Night Football’s credibility. You finally found the right broadcasting duo, and now one of your biggest stars doesn’t have an extension. ESPN needs to sign Troy Aikman before somebody else does! 🔥 PAPAW DADDY DAN HAS ONE FINAL QUESTION! Should ESPN keep the legendary Joe Buck and Troy Aikman partnership alive, or should Troy become a free agent and take his talents somewhere else—possibly Amazon Prime Video or CBS?
