@mariahschultz.ot: Helping calm the nervous system before bed 🧠💤 Using proprioceptive (like pillow squishes + joint compressions) and vestibular (like slow rocking) input before bedtime can help organize and regulate your child’s body — supporting smoother transitions, better body awareness, and a sense of calm. These sensory strategies give the brain the input it needs to feel grounded, safe, and ready to rest. 💛 But remember: every child is different. What’s calming for one may be overstimulating for another. Always follow your child’s cues and consult with your OT if you’re unsure what’s right for them. Save this for your bedtime routine 🌙 @TokiMats #sensoryplay #bedtimeroutine #regulation #pediatricOT #toddlermom #sensorystrategies #proprioceptiveinput #vestibularinput #nervoussystemsupport #toddlernightroutine #toddlersleep #pediatricot
Well this explains my 1.5 yr old son crashing on the bed at story time. He stands, flops over and says ‘crash!’ - didn’t realise he was regulating his nervous system!

My toddler asks me to “dump” her on the bed repeatedly 😂 I didn’t realise there was science to it. I thought she was just kooky

As just a parent, can confirm these work, even if we don't always remember to do them.
