I love your posts. I have studied German. With almost no exceptions, there are no silent letters. Here's the irony; English is a Germanic language. However, we English speakers have managed to adulterate the Germanic language roots to the point that there are more exceptions than there are hard rules. Keep posting.

my mom has the worst time with a hard G at the end of a word. rag becomes rack, rug becomes rock. th is also hard, though she's been speaking English since the late 50s
