@agriculture5639: #PlantTok #TikTokLearningCampaign I’ve always heard that batteries are extremely toxic to the environment, so I decided to run an experiment and see how they affect plant growth. I planted lettuce seedlings in pots with soil mixed with battery material, and others in clean soil as a control. All pots received the same care and water. I’ll be observing their development and even considering lab tests for toxic metals in the future. What do you think will happen? Will the plants survive? Comment your guess below! #PlantExperiment #SoilPollution #GardeningTest #ToxicSoil #ScienceInTheGarden #EcoAwareness #LettuceGrowth #BatteryWaste #UrbanGardening #SustainableLiving

Right, so now you have lettuce filled with heavy metals like mercury, zinc, cadmium, nickel etc

The plants are going to get energy from the batteries.

If you plant something in soil where a NiCd (Nickel-Cadmium) battery has leaked, the plant could absorb toxic substances like cadmium and nickel from the contaminated soil. These heavy metals are harmful to humans and animals even in small amounts. As a result, any edible plant grown in such soil might become toxic and unsafe to eat. It's strongly advised not to grow food in soil that has been contaminated by battery leakage unless the soil has been properly tested and remediated (cleaned or replaced).

I think the plants will grow fine. They might even Excel with the contents of the battery, but I do think toxins will be prevalent within the vegetable.
