lots of "hobby" people think they can run a business cuz all they see is the boss they used to work for does "nothing" but he's already working on the 3rd job quote to keep everything rolling. Pinch pennies when you start up and slowly upgrade

Farming has been the same way last couple years. Company’s keep pushing million dollar machines with no secondary market. Can get a 1 year old x9 combine with a couple hundred hours for 450k. The amount of used equipment sitting on lots is incredible

My cousin and I just started a excavation business and we already had a skid so bit the bullet and went out and got a brand new cat 306. He bids jobs where all we need is 1 little weekend job (septic tank, etc…) and we can make the payment on the machine and all the over head of running the business with 1 small job. 2 days of work pays for the machine it’s really not THAT HARD.

I was fortunate to meet a man with 180 employees In excavation/ mining. He told me it’s all profit/ loss and that’s it in this business. I agree with you 100% people simply do not know their numbers

Find the whole pre def market over priced when it’s so easy to do a removal these days and not be paying more for a 2005-2010 than they were brand new back then.

Huge slowdown in dirt work on the farming and residential side… I think, deere lends or rents some of this new stuff out to get a few hours on them to some of the bigger operations to try to get them to bite and also so they can cut the price.. nobody’s financing 100K machines for part time Skid Loader work

The “dirt work game” is getting overloaded with people who have watched others get wealthy just like anything else making money. So then someone has to start cutting prices to make it work. Then everyone has to suffer several years until it comes back around.

It's a sign of the economy. The "working guy" isn't working. I've bought and flipped trailers for 20 years. I haven't seen used trailers this low since 2008. It's a very strong indication that the economy is getting worse

All the new stuff is garbage, Ag field tech here. If you own new equipment you had better have more than one because it’s going to be down a lot. It may be under warranty but you’ll still pay travel time and mileage to get it repaired. People are probably losing money with down new equipment 🤷

I think you're right I think a lot of people got a machine and thought that they could be able to make payments on profit by volume by undercutting everyone else and found out the race to the bottom ends badly.

I wonder if people buy the machines, do the work on their own projects and then sell off the machines. The loss on the equipment is their cost on the project which may be less than hiring it out? 🤷♂️
