@myeventsmarketplaceapp: 🦈 Hákarl, Iceland: A national dish of Iceland, Hákarl is fermented Greenland shark or basking shark. The preparation is a lesson in patience and tradition. The shark meat is poisonous when fresh due to a high content of urea and trimethylamine oxide. To render it edible, the meat is buried in a shallow pit, pressed with stones to drain the poisonous fluids, and left to ferment for six to twelve weeks. It is then hung to dry for several more months. The result is a pungent dish with a strong ammonia-rich smell and a fishy, cheesy taste. It is often served in small cubes and washed down with a shot of Brennivín, a local schnapps. #shark #iceland #hakari
