The sun doesn't actually go anywhere when it gets dark. The Earth's rotation is what creates the illusion of the sun moving across the sky and disappearing at night. As the Earth spins on its axis, different parts of the planet face away from the sun, causing night and day.

I think this concept would be easier to visualize and understand if you explain how big the sun is and say the sun light is shinning on to the moon. Instead of saying the moon light is from the sun. There is no “moon light.” And the sun is always “behind” you if you’re looking at a full moon.

Any chance you know what a revolution is? The earth revolves around the sun but the earth also revolves on it own axis. The earth is round. If the earth is revolving on its axis then nearly half of the day, you, wherever you are, are on the opposite side. Shine a flash light on your finger. The back side of your finger is in a shadow or darkness as you are when it’s night time. The sun is 109 times bigger than this tiny planet we are on. The sun dwarfs the earth. It definitely don’t disappear!!
