my theory is because as they grew up and mom's taking care of them, mom would always act excited when dad comes home so they imitate that. Dad's however, do not. So the kids associate dad coming home = excitement, mom coming home = nothing special

i observe with my daughter that she is excited with the ones that play with her..its their way to communicate..also uncles or aunts that appear just for play are connected only with play so she is excited to see them

Sweetie, I feel your pain 😢 every time I come home from work the same and if my husband just go out for a walk or taking the trash out and come back after 5-10 minutes, I see my baby’s his face, so excited so happy to see dada back

This is because us mothers hype up daddy coming home and teach our kids to be excited. If the kids are so indifferent to us getting home, then obviously dad doesn’t return the favor.
