The damn at the Hollywood Reservoir was a super similar damn which is one of the reasons they backfilled the side, facing Hollywood to avoid a similar fate.

The thing that made it so sad was that nobody really knows how many people died because back in those days there were a lot of people that were sleeping in tents. Farmworkers, people,traveling, etc. and they all got washed away all the way to The Ocean.
