@there_y0u_are: Replying to @MADI HAND unfortunately i might be too annoying of a person to have a wedding registry :/ everything i want is vintage or frankly kind of insane
you’re so real for this. idk how i would explain to my relatives that i want a very specific $150 vintage alessi kettle without sounding like a snob 😭

People want to buy cool stuff. Def do unique registry. The problem is boring gifts. Not cool gifts.

Do a limited registry with direct links, and a honeymoon fund for the rest. This is how I got the block print linens of my dreams, a new electric kettle, and a trip to Japan from my wedding

Zola lets you put external links and people who get that gift for you basically just gift you the funds towards that item and you order it yourself directly. We linked a specific art print we wanted from the artist’s site.

I was just looking at my cousin’s wedding registry and I had secondhand embarrassment. I could never expose myself in that way.

I fully opted out for this reason… also the things I like are offensive prices

High quality sheets, towels, napkins, serving dishes, formal china, lamps, candlesticks, art. You don’t need to register for appliances or cookware. You can build a registry from a lot of high end stores.

I will say I regret not doing a wedding registry- we ended up with three versions of those customizable “Name’ & Name’s Adventures” pushpin maps. Couldn’t even donate them because… they had our names on them.

I remember telling my mother that I’m too embarrassed to register. People don’t need to know what I want…

Don’t skip a registry! You will get things that “remind people of you” and it’s so sweet… but family doesn’t know you like they think they do. Register for a handful of functional (😉) items, then a honeymoon registry or money towards “something”.

I used Zola and populated it with external links to the chic fun home pieces i wanted from ssense / matches (rip) / alessi etc. Our guests loved buying us fun stuff that actually felt memorable and meaningful vs things to do housework.

If you’re basic, do one. If you’re not, you probs also have a little money, so just skip it. Buy things for yourself. Have guests donate to a charity in your name

I added gift cards in a variety of price points to vintage stores I frequent in my area (or online like Chairish) - places I would like buy things like vintage cutlery or antique furniture

I put so much eBay on my wedding registry! If you use Zola you can do cash equivalent and then go buy it yourself.
