For me reading Crime and Punishment was actually life changing, I usually catch myself quoting it while discussing various topics. It feels like a mathematical proof of soul.

Don’t let the size fool you. Notes from the underground is supper philosophically dense in my opinion. Very challenging, so challenging I had to drop it, maybe I’m inexperienced in reading (Ive read The Odyssey, Fahrenheit 451, and of mice and men for school and enjoyed them, tried to read The Count of Monte Cristo and A Tale Of Two Cities but was way too long for me, Lastly I read Life of Pi and Frankenstein (1931 edition) for myself, 10/10 recommend)so I do wish to read more but definitely do not start with this one. But hey do what you want

Do you have a favorite translator? I’ve just started Tolstoy and compared a few different translations and it can really change the experience. I found all but one of Rosemary Edmund’s translations of Tolstoy on EBay and they’re really something to savor.
