Kylee | 1st year Vet Student :
Based on NAVLE outcomes, there’s no evidence LMU graduates are lower quality. Their pass rates meet and often exceed accreditation thresholds and in recent years have beaten the national average. Its internship matching is strong, and job placement rates are fairly strong given the field. They also have early & consistent hands on experience. Based on performance data LMU isn’t producing low quality veterinarians. LMU’s probation is for research, not clinical quality or student performance. I think you can argue they should get their accreditation taken without arguing their students are unfit doctors. I’m suprised to see so many comments like that. There are several schools that have been put on probation within the last 10 years. Even Purdue got put on it in 2019. LMU submitted a formal corrective plan to AVMA-COE on November 22, 2024, committing to build and document a high-quality, student-inclusive research program. Whether they are suing or not they are still complying to the guidelines. As an incoming student, I’m not concerned. Perhaps I’ll eat my words at a later date, we’ll see. They will be reevaluated in 2026, I guess I’ll find out then.

We should not be taking away something that is holding a standard for all vet schools to follow. If RUSVM can keep its accreditation while being the “community college” of vet school (I went there so don’t come at me. I think RUSVM is easier to get in but extremely hard to graduate from) then there is zero reason why an American based vet school can’t keep theirs.

If the AVMA’s accreditation standards are “so hard to meet” then why is LMU one of the only schools (if not the only one) on probation? I don’t remember Oklahoma State throwing a fit like this when they were placed on probation for the second time. In fact, they’re building a $295 million facility to improve themselves. If the AVMA does not set accreditation regulations in place, these schools will not prepare students for success in the profession. Perhaps if vet students didn’t have to take out 400k in loans we could start to fix the shortage.

this is so sad for students… they will have a hard time finding jobs or residency with this controversy.

LMU is doing this 100% for their own private interest. I get that there’s a veterinary shortage but I find it laughable to think that these new private vet schools actually care. They are trying to capitalize off of an oppurtunity they see.

Avoid LMU. Pretty sure our tuition is being used to sue AVMA and previous professors…

LMU wants to open more campuses at a lower standard to expand their for-profit school. We have plenty of new vet schools in development that are meeting the current requirements

I mean, given that they rely on GP practices across the country to teach their students instead of having an on-site clinic with specialties... I'm not surprised.

Surely LMU knew the regulations before beginning a Veterinary program in such close proximity to a well established program like The University of Tennessee. I would imagine they knew the rules or maybe they just saw dollar signs? Something to ponder. If private institutions want to compete.... well.... then compete.😏

As an LMU student, I 100% disagree that LMU deserves to be on probation. I chose the school based on the hands on experience that we gain so early on and have noticed a huge difference in my skills as compared to other students during summer jobs already. I worked at PennVet doing research and believe that research should not be a requirement for a veterinary school especially if it is not one that has a specialty hospital. My education has been top notch so far and the faculty and staff are extremely supportive, which I did not feel supported at many other schools I got accepted to.

I just want more opportunities to be able to get into vet school ON THE FIRST TRY while also not feeling like I have to sell my firstborn child and my right kidney to pay for it.

Why is LMU on probation? Did not enough of their most recent class pass the NAVLE to meet requirements?

why don’t other private schools like penn and cornell have these issues? it seems like the school itself rather the issue of private schools having fair competition with research

There is a reason I chose K-State over Lincoln memorial, even though it was cheaper and closer to home. It just wasn't established and didn't feel up to par. I'm glad I chose otherwise.

I just finished my first semester at LMU this past spring. Although I disagree with them suing the AVMA I do have to say that I am very happy with my education here. I went to Ross for a semester in 2022 and the difference between the two schools are night and day. LMU does care about their students and they do provide great opportunities. We have more hands on experiences during our semesters and are taught by incredible professors. I am just sad that they felt like they needed to sue because the AVMA has important standards for a reason.

I’m pre-vet. Every school requires a different set of prerequisites. Some of which that require classes outside of a typical Bach. Degree. Example: nutrition. But then again, schools love diverse backgrounds. But unless you’re a chem or bio major, it doesn’t fall under thier degree to take a lot of prerequisites. And therefore not covered under FASFA.

I actually hold great issue with the AVMA as a whole. But, I think that performing researching and having faculty that does so holds benefit for students. They get taught by the people on the cutting edge, and if they choose to specialize have a chance to participate in research. There HAS to be some kind of stringent standards to create doctors. Esp in a field where they don’t have to continue any form of training after school.

This is not super accurately reported because LMU is requesting that the trade association branch of avma, which is looking at that schools in a business aspect is removed. That is not the avma COE which is determining minimum standards for veterinary school. That is why it is being outlined as an anti-competitive law suit. Lmu is not seeking any financial compensation. The vague details in this are turning out to be very disparaging for students currently faced with discrimination for the school taking this position.

100% I have been saying how corrupt this whole gimmick is since my husband went to vet school. We couldn’t even find 1 veterinarian that would help my husband with after hours emergency calls. (Mixed animal) Emergencies don’t just happen during the day. AVMA just wants money & you get NOTHING for all the dues you have to pay! Finally someone is doing something good! Don’t stop!!!
