if you buy a new shoes and donate them,don't expect to see them on the local homeless person.Most likely someone from the staff would take them or they gonna be sold in the store.Part of the profit of those thrift shops might be going to those charity organisations and used for donations-food,materials,blankets and so on.Some donations have to be new or professionaly dry cleaned in some countries,especially those for kids.
