We have the DNA of ancient Egyptians, they were closest to modern populations of the levant and arabia. As far as their race, people of the Levant, West Asia, Mid east, and Europe all genetically cluster much much closer to each other than they do to any other groups (like subsaharan africans, east asians, west asians, native americans). So the ancient Egyptians would actually have been legally considered white in 1950s alabama (as middle eastern people were).

Cheik Anta Diop settled this question at the 1974 UNESCO Conference with Dr. Obinga. The racial caste system is a creation of European empire to support chattel slavery and colonialism. The prehistory study of Kemet (Egypt) and Kush (Sudan) especially during the humid period of the Sahara offers rich evidence of the deep “black” African character of both Kush and and Kemet. And, half of human history had passed before “white” skin color appears on the planet. Africans throughout the diaspora only seek to reclaim their history from histories written by those with agendas to support power.

I don’t know if you can ascribe one race to them when they were such a multiracial culture. You can absolutely say that a majority of people in ancient Egypt were most likely Egyptian, but to say all ancient Egyptians were black and that Ancient Egypt was a black country is not really any different to someone saying America is a White country. Not saying that you’re doing that! Just adding onto the discussion. Afrocentrism is just as big of a problem as cultural appropriation
