The brothers filed a habeas corpus petition in 2023 where they asked for a review of their convictions. In the petition, they cited new evidence detailing claims of alleged sexual abuse by their father. The judge ruled prosecutors must show cause for why the brothers should not be granted relief. The brothers were convicted of murdering their parents in 1989 and were sentenced to life in prison with no parole. Earlier this spring, they were resentenced to 50 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole. The parole hearings are scheduled for August.
