Umm, I am from Balkans, and have a slavic roots, this is a spirit from slavic paganisam. Scarecrows are spirits that protect the house and the owner. They are to find lost things, protect the house from robberies etc. The reason why everything was opend the day after is bc he needed to know what she has in the house so that is something gets lost he can get it back, and that includes the locket, she was probl wearing it before and when she took it off he opend the locket to inspect it and rememeber it. The screcrows do not leave the house but do like to follow around the house.
