@bookaholics_bookclub: I have had a VASTLY different experience with Kristin Hannah than Emily has. Emily and I agree on a lot of books. We definitely do not agree on Kristin Hannah! That being said, I have not read her 2 favorites and I am not opposed to trying out another one. #books #bookaholic #bookish #bookrecs #BookTok #kristinhannah #thewomen #thenightingale #historicalfiction

I feel the same about The Great Alone. For me it was just ok, but booktok seems to love it.

I'm guessing she named it the "women" to give credit to all the women that were forgotten during the Vietnam War. My father is a Vietnam Vet so it deeply impacted me, but that's what's great about books! What one person loves, another doesn't! That's why there are more than one book. 🥰

I wholly agree on The Nightengale. Took me so long to finish. I really liked The Women for the most part. In Vietnam was so much more interesting than her coming home for me. Still parts of it made me sob. I’m older so I remember the Vietnam War.

I’m so there with you. I do NOT understand why everyone likes her books. They are predictable and annoying. Hated the Nightingale. The Four Winds was awful. The whole thing.

My sister feels the same way about Kristen Hannah books. She recommended some Kate Quinn books. I’m just getting back into reading, and The Women was the first book I’d read in years. I really enjoyed it, but agree the best part was in Vietnam. I agree about The Nightingale—it was the 300 page mark for me.

I feel like another booktoker described her perfectly when he said her books are always 100 pages longer than they need to be. I love historical fiction and I like her ok but she’s not my favorite.

I agree that in general her books are too long and can be repetitive at points. The Nightingale was worth it though and I loved it. Really did not like The Women at all. I’ve also read Winter Garden which was pretty good.

I didn’t like the women either. But I loved the nightingale. I think Kristin Hannah is either a yes or no for people. I liked the great alone and the four winds. My daughter doesn’t like any of them.

I agree, the Nightingale was too slow. I wish the Women had focused more on her time in the war and zoomed out to how other women experienced being in war time. I read Four Winds, it was ok. Another very slow moving books. The Great Alone was good. It was just heartbreak after heartbreak.

I definitely don’t understand the hype around Kristin Hannah. I think she does some interesting research - for example I loved learning about Russian WWII history in Winter Garden but I do not enjoy her writing style and the cheesy love stories she mixes in every book. And there are so many amazing HF books that deserve more hype 😬
