no hate, serious question. I hunt a lot, amd im part of a club with around 12k acres. when I joined the club 4 years ago nobody coyote hunted. we used thermals, suppressors, calls etc and killed them one after the other. after about 2 years of that the population is nearly non existent and we see far more fawns and a huge increase in turkey poults. woukd you say they left the area? or is it possible to exterminate them from on a smaller scale of land?

Explain it in layman’s terms. The less coyotes equals more prey. The more prey the healthier the female coyote will be and the more pups she will drop. It all boils down to how healthy the female is during pup season.

Plus, there’s a study that says if you have coyotes that respect humans boundaries and you remove them then they are usually replaced by young, unruly animals than don’t respect those boundaries and cause issues you didnt have before.

The fact that Coyote is a constant and well-respected fixture in indigenous american folklore already tells me they belong here and that whatever conflicts may arise with them are due to mismanagement of other factors, not the coyotes themselves.

Coyotes don’t reproduce more frequently due to environmental pressure, they are seasonally monoestrous animals that have fairly tight breeding ranges. Ofc there’s outlying situations but it’s not as common as it’s made out to be. The more pups per litter also isn’t activated by morality, there’s potential that with increased food availability that larger litters occur but that’s somewhat debated. The analogy that does work is the resource availability as that’s what really tips the scales for coyotes, when coyotes are killed they see a reduction in extensive resource competition which when multiple breeding pairs are killed that’s more resources for the remaining litters on the ground, drastically increasing pup survival rate. Same phenomenon can be seen in Yellowstone. Coyotes don’t breed more frequently under that same pressure, young coyotes aren’t breeding much either. Twelve year long study found that only 35% of yearling coyotes can get to their first heat cycle before 2 years (their sexual maturity range) and none from that twelve year study produced a litter. Gets a little shady in the details but a lot of the time the “can’t cull out coyotes” is loaded with misconceptions

Preach it! As a hunter myself, I have huge problems with hunters who refuse to open an ecology or a wildlife bio book to even TRY to understand their local ecosystems.
