@heyhaunter: W Ash Ash first catches Caterpie in Episode 3 of the original Pokémon anime, titled “Ash Catches a Pokémon.” In this episode, Ash and Misty are traveling through Viridian Forest. Ash spots a Caterpie and successfully catches it—making Caterpie the very first Pokémon Ash ever captures in the wild (outside of Pikachu, who was given to him). Misty is disgusted by Caterpie, which upsets the Pokémon. Despite this, Caterpie shows a sweet and affectionate nature, especially toward Misty. This episode sets the stage for Caterpie’s later evolution and strengthens Ash’s role as a caring Pokémon trainer.
