They have a Pacific octopus at the Scripps aquarium in San Diego and he was having a hard time just being able to see all the visitors, so they installed a one-way mirror so that he could feel more secure in his space. You can tell he’s a lot happier after this modification 🧡

Can’t the octopus just technically climb out of the touch tank whenever it wants to? Cus in finding Nemo that octopus was on the MOVE you couldn’t keep it anywhere

I’ve skipped so many zoo, “sanctuary”, aquarium visits because they weren’t accredited. I don’t have time for deep research when I’m traveling and I’d rather not risk supporting an unethical facility.

the san antonio aquarium is a for profit not well being of the animals in my opinion. you can touch almost everything and little to no staff around

You made me realize I’ve never been somewhere that didn’t have a touch tank where there were areas where animals could go to hide and volunteers monitoring what’s happening and giving people directions as to how to interact properly

I’d like to say also that the octopus is NOT in a touch tank. It’s in a DEEP tank. Touch tanks are small. If that octopus really wants to it could pull an unsuspecting child down and drown them. That wouldn’t be able to happen in a small touch tank that at most has like 2 feet of water in it. They have it in a regular tank and are just letting ppl touch it from the top. Thank GOD it happened to a kid who is calm and used to animals and a mom who pays attention to their kid cuz could yall imagine it happening to a frantic kid who’s parents were like looking at their phone or something? It’s crazy.

The octopus that got out was at the Seattle Aquarium. His tank overlooks the open touch tanks. He just wanted a midnight snack

If this is the San Antonio aquarium, it’s super sketchy and I refuse to go there. I’ve seen a lot of what I think are unethical practices.
