As a new grad three years ago, I had to leave. Only one hospital was willing to hire me back then at $15/hr no benefits, no health care, no 401k, nothing. Packed my bags, dedicated 8 months to studying full time for the NCLEX, been in Philly almost 3 years making $42/hr. I still fully miss home, but if I really wanted to be anurse and financially survive, I had to leave

Yep, I’m an LPN but didn’t work as one when I was living there cause of the pay. You all deserve so much more! Teachers too! And most other professions on the island! I make more than double that as an LPN in NC now.

I had to move to Fl because in PR I couldn’t even think to buy a house. So… it is what it is. Nursing isn’t going to change in PR any time soon. Too much work load, too much patients, too low pay rates.
