Most famous as being the starting/end point of the Shimanami Kaido cycling route that connects Honshu‘s Onomichi and Shikoku, this city is actually worth exploring as a day trip on its own. A main highlight is certainly the beautiful reconstructed Imabari castle with sweeping views over the city. 🏯 For a local delicacy, make sure to give Tamago Buta Meshi, grilled pork with egg over rice a try. Once a humble staff meal for local Chinese workers, this dish has developed into a local staple of Imabari and can be found on the menu in many spots in the city. 🐷🥚🍚 And last but not least, make sure to swing by Imabari Towel‘s main store and museum. Imabari towels can be found all across Japan and are easily the most famous export of the city. In the Imabari Towel main store you can find hundreds of all kinds of different towels for sale, including some Imabari exclusives! A must see for sure 🧣
