When draining a pool there is a plug in the bottom that needs to be removed to prevent this from occurring

Wasn’t drained. It evaporated out from being abandoned for so long. You can see the water line.

That pool has been sitting for a long time, something else is going on. I've drain my pool lower than that for maintenance.

The pool's spontaneous egress from the terrestrial substrate can be attributed to an unforeseen synergy of hydrostatic pressure dissipation, soil matrix relaxation, and the inherent buoyancy of the pool shell, thereby inducing a transient yet spectacular manifestation of aquatic container levitation, colloquially referred to as 'pool-popping-out-of-the-ground-itis. Trust me bro.

Pool technician here. If the soil is saturated then that makes that pool a boat

This is why soil compaction is important around the perimeter of the pool. As well as concrete reinforcements and the right concrete mix best for exposure to moisture. This is also why there are 3rd party and county inspections.

So by the looks of things, it’s partly cloudy, with a high of 87, and grass needs mowed

This is why most states require you to permit the emptying of a pool.

You’re not supposed to drain pools. Maybe 1/3 of the water max
