Ok I need to clarify something because so many people seem to be posting incorrect information. This is a FEMALE Red Velvet Ant which IS a type of wasp. Females have stingers that are also ovipositors used to lay eggs but they don’t have wings. Males have wings but no stinger. This female was generally calm but did sting me while I was filming. It was very painful. Not at the extreme level that some videos out there make it seem but each experience could be somewhat different depending on a number of factors. More info in description.

Fun fact, velvet ants’ venom is very uniquely evolved to not be particularly toxic or dangerous, its genuine sole evolutionary purpose is to cause intense, intense pain
