If you read Heart of Darkness, I highly recommend read Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart which basically serves as a response to that book.

Heart of Darkness is great, but I definitely recommend knowing the history of King Leopold II and his atrocities in Congo. That's what the book is based on and knowing about the real-life imperialism that took place makes the book easier to understand and much more impactful imo

The interesting thing about the yellow wallpaper is that in the Victorian era yellow wallpaper was literally filled with arsenic and probably made people go crazy
