My doctor would only place a straight J and I've had way less issues compared to friends I know with a GJ. I went 2 years with a straight catheter and it's been so much better since getting a tube with a balloon because I don't need adhesives anymore. Wishing you the best.

Just to clarify some terminology first based on what you said in your caption, on a GJ people normally say “j extension” or “j port,” a jejunostomy tube is what ppl normally call a J tube and goes directly into your small intestine! I have a J tube, my surgeon does not place GJs at all because of the risk of them flipping. There’s def a lot of advantages to having a J tube, like it can’t flip, and I’m also able to get it changed without anesthesia or imaging, either in office or I can do it myself, it depends on the type of surgery you have and the surgeon’s policies though. J tubes get a bad rap and ppl say the recovery is really difficult, but personally it was super easy! I had to have it resited recently bc of complications, I went back to school/work 2 days afterwards both times, which was admittedly pushing it a little but not that bad.
