I use ChatGPT as a partner. I discuss ideas with it, and whenever i randomly talk with it, i get really cool scenario ideas and good story plot ideas for my books. Now I’m asking as a new writer if that is okay or if that‘s illegal in this community

completely get your point, but using ChatGPT also is horrendous for the environment. there are ways to seek out and learn about genAI sentence structures and limitations without feeding the machine and wasting resources 😅

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel it. I’ve been writing since I was 14 and I read a lot. Never published, but I’ve worked as a ghostwriter.Sometimes, when I read something, I just know it wasn’t written by a real person. It’s hard to explain, but the emotion is missing. AI can mimic it, but if you’ve really written or read with your heart, you can tell. It just feels off.

I use it to give me writing prompts..I've used it four times..wrote a chapter or two for each prompt and then feel like a fraud and abandon the story🥺🥺🥺😂😂😂😂

It’s so sad, I love a good em dash 😭 I’ve had such a hard time rewriting my sentences to use less em dashes because of this RIP

I wrote my book. I use em dashes. It is not a “tell tale” sign. Saying it is hurts those of us who use them. Chat GPT uses them because it uses author’s work. People are being falsely accused of using AI because of this.

I programmed my ChatGPT using the seven Westerns, five rom-coms, eight paranormal shifters and three cozy mysteries I have ghostwritten for Harper Collins and Simon and Schuster. Those books comprise the only source material it can draw upon.

I uploaded a paragraph to one of those ai “detectors” and it said 91% ai ! I had one em dash, one. I’m deleting all my dashes now.

I CAN TELL!!!!! when rachel zegler and gal gadot introduced the nominees for that award like with a maybe 40 word speech IT WAS AI GENERATED and nobody said anything but it was so glaringly obvious and embarrassing

I agree , it has a tendency to write very sterile , it uses the “best way” so it sounds like an it came from a book trying to teach English. I am using it because it helps me make sure that I use correct grammar/phrasing (I am not a native speaker), still it tends to erase my style by trying to fix everything …. I think it can be good to help you start cause it does give some helpful tips but writing everything exclusively there ….

writing done with llms is the very definition of mid. you'll never get anything overly clever from an llm. you get statistical averages. which for programming works out. for poetry for lyrical writing for fantasy writing for innovative writing, it does not.

I don't understand, I didn't use Ai for my novel. But for my masters degree I used it in small amount. And the rumors about Ai can write a book is so wrong. Cuz it can't remember anything... I just use it for email, lines, research with Google and my friend. So I don't understand. Ai is not trustworthy but a good tool for small stuff.
