We need to start a group nationwide to protect our lil girls self esteem. I also have daughters. I hate that they will have to be told they are not good enough because of some dusty. I remember growing up and blk girls were every blk boys target in school They all wanted the yt girls and they were very open about their disgust for us. I dated one blk boy in school who was the only ome that had a love for blk girls because his parents taught him to love us. I went to a mixed school and the yt boys were quick to defend us against our own.,it was sad and confusing

I was in third grade when I was written a letter by my classmate (who left it in my desk) who sat next to me. It said he hated me and I was ugly. I was so embarrassed I cried so much.

It took me awhile to love my dark skin. I hated going places with my friends cause I was always treated as the ugly friend. Never thought I was ugly until we got around Boys lol.

I literally started twitter in middle school (2011) and deleted it because it was sooo negative. I came back in like 2018 when I realize it was a shift.

I remember sitting at the cafeteria table in 5th grade while this black boy talked about how ugly all my “black” facial features were. It wasn’t until after college that I worked on unlearning what that little boy said.

I didn’t realize I was “ugly” until I went to my first predominantly black school and to this day the only men that have ever called me pretty or beautiful is my father and cousins

Yep!! I grew up a fat dark skinned black girl and middle school was terrrriiiibleeee. I was in school around the time the movie Precious came out and I was getting bullied every single day. I didn’t really gain any confidence in myself until I got to college and it got better when I got out. I feel better about myself now but my self esteem was shot

i say it all the time. i wouldnt want to be a young blk girl or young lady in this day and age. I grew up in the 90s and used to get tired of boys trying to holla at me. i had some unpleasant experiences however, was told im pretty on a daily basis as a brown skin girl. i worked on myself to love me more over the years

what you're saying about colorist fathers is completely true my father was like that both the mother of his children are light skin.

I got it too. Starting in the 80’s. I was never affirmed by anyone. My mother died when I was a baby.

I received letters in class from teenage boys my age when I was 14 just to be told “I will soon grow old and lose my beauty”. They were doing that bcos I didn’t want them sitting close to me.

My mom just told me her own father would tell her she will not be as pretty as my grandma and her sisters. They were gorgeous black woman but to say that to your own daughter. No wonder my mama had low self esteem and she is identical to my grandma.😩

I had it bad in the 2000’s but I can only imagine how bad it is for little black girls in the 2020’s. That’s why when I have a baby and if I have a little girl, I’m going to teach her to love herself and how to stand up to racist and colorist people.
