Okay hold on, the first one was campy but that’s half the fun of these movies. Was Cole needed? No. But he actually gave us something we didn’t know for once. Everyone else was amazing in the first one.

I honestly hated the first one also, the opening scene was perfect, then after that, it seemed like the director ran out of budget and that movie became a Tubi movie 🤣

I think they created Cole to lead the audience to a reason for the tournament kinda softly leading the audience through the lore of Mortal Kombat. I'm more forgiving because I like Lewis Tan. Dude is a great martial artist. Cole really should have been an established character.
