This is what makes you an actual editor in my opinion. being able to edit your own work is one thing editing someone else’s work is an entirely different thing.

usually atleast a director or bare minimum an art / creative director will atleast give you a treatment / mood board to help guide the direction of the edit — but yes, huge difference from videographer vs editor.

personally it's vice versa on both sides, I'm a video editor, and you basically described a regular day at the office. However... storyboarding, setting up, directing, shooting, is LEAGUES harder *to me* than just working with client footage. same principle still applies, work backwards, see the final product and work towards that.

that happens on unplanned and unscripted projects. on a scripted project you don't face that problem because there is a storyboard to follow
