Here are 5 quick ways to tell the difference real fast. 🧲 1. The Magnet Test Grab a strong magnet and touch it to the straw. Real copper is completely non magnetic! If the magnet snaps onto it, it is just steel with copper colored paint or plating on top. 🗝️ 2. The Scratch Test Take a key or pin and make a tiny scratch on the inside rim or bottom edge. Solid copper is reddish brown all the way through. If you see silver, bright yellow brass, or gray underneath, it is fake. 🧊 3. The Thermal Test Drop the straw into a glass of ice water. Copper conducts cold faster than almost any other metal. A real copper straw will feel freezing cold to the touch in about 2 seconds flat! 🥗 4. The Vinegar and Salt Test Dab a drop of white vinegar mixed with a little salt on a tiny hidden spot and let it sit for 15 minutes. Pure copper reacts with the acid and forms a blue green oxidation spot. If nothing happens, it is sealed with a plastic coating or made of a completely different metal. 💥 5. The Tap Method Gently tap the straw against a counter. Real copper makes a soft, dull, warm thud. Stainless steel or brass will make a loud, high pitched ringing noise.
