- Minoxidil: potentially fatal cardiovascular poisoning in cats and dogs, especially cats. - Xylitol: can cause severe low blood sugar and liver injury in dogs. Equivalent toxicity is not established in cats. - Tea tree oil: concentrated oil can cause serious neurological poisoning in cats and dogs. Trace amounts in cosmetics are a different exposure. - Methyl salicylate: sufficient exposure can cause systemic poisoning. Cats eliminate salicylate slowly. - Camphor: skin absorption or ingestion can cause poisoning, including seizures. - Benzocaine: can impair the blood’s ability to carry oxygen. Direct feline poisoning is documented. - Benzalkonium chloride: disinfectant exposure can cause severe mouth and skin injuries, especially in cats. Cosmetic preservative concentrations need separate assessment. - Lidocaine: excessive exposure can affect the heart and nervous system. Cats are more sensitive. - Zinc oxide: swallowing it can cause gastrointestinal illness; repeated ingestion can cause systemic zinc toxicity. Ingestion cases are especially common in dogs. - Caffeine: sufficient ingestion can cause heart rhythm problems and seizures. Ordinary incidental contact with a caffeine cosmetic is not proven harmful. Check pet-safety ingredient information on the Oasis app.
