🔔Ladies and Gentlemen, we are fueling up to conquer the day! JP8 juice for the magnificent M1 Abrams! Here is your #MotivationalMonday cup of Joe ☕️ brought to you by your Friendly Neighborhood Armor MAJOR of Fort Benning(ret.). 🛢️ Fun Facts About Refueling the M1 Abrams 1.	Thirsty Beast: The M1 Abrams isn’t just a tank, it’s a mobile jet 🛩️ engine. Its Honeywell AGT1500 turbine burns jet fuel (JP-8) and can drink up to 500 gallons in a single fill-up. That’s like filling 10 pickup trucks at once. 2.	Miles Per Gallon? Try Gallons Per Mile. The Abrams gets around 0.6 miles per gallon on the road, and even less cross-country. That means it can burn through a full tank in about 8 hours of normal ops or less than 2 hours in combat maneuvering. 3.	Fuel Cap = Hot Zone: Refueling teams (or “POL” 👉🏼Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant crews) treat it like a combat operation. One spark, one cigarette, and you’re having the worst BBQ of your life. So, tanks off, turrets locked, and static lines grounded before the nozzle touches metal. 4.	The “Tanker Shower” 🚿: Every Abrams crewman has probably been baptized in JP-8 at least once. The fuel nozzle kicks, a hose bursts, or the wind shifts — congratulations, you smell like jet fuel for the next 72 hours. 5.	Combat Pit Stops ⛽: In the field, M1 Abrams refuel in “Tactical Assembly Areas” — quick NASCAR-style pit stops under blackout conditions. Crews jump out, hook up, refuel, and roll out, often with NVGs on and engines running low idle for quick getaways. 6.	Refuel Math Is a Crew Drill: The loader or driver often calls out the “fuel gauge” (which never seems accurate) while the TC checks the logbook. The crew usually adds “a little extra,” because “we’re not walking back to the FARP.” 7.	Smells Like Victory (and JP-8): You can always tell when an Abrams just refueled that hot-turbine JP-8 smell sticks around. Tankers joke that it’s the “cologne of freedom.” 8.	Hose Discipline: Every new loader learns fast: never stand directly behind the nozzle. If you do, you’ll learn the difference between PSI and PTSD real quick. 9.	Refueling Train: During large-scale ops, POL trucks line up behind the battalion, creating a “fuel train” that stretches for miles. It’s the lifeline of armored warfare; no fuel, no fight. 10.	Engine Off? Optional…Officially, you’re supposed to shut the engine down to refuel. But unofficially? Many crews have done “combat refuels” with the turbine idling, just enough to keep systems hot and ready. (Don’t try that in peacetime unless you like paperwork.) The more you🫵🏼 know 🤓📚 Have a GREAT Day 🤗 and Be all You🫵🏼 Can Be! #MotivationalMonday #GoArmy #GoArmor #BestJobIEverHad
