@alondra1x: 📍Yanga, Veracruz The first free black town in all of Latin America. The town is named after Yanga, an African leader who led a revolt of enslaved people in 1570, establishing a settlement of freed people in Veracruz highlands. Yanga's forces successfully defended their settlement against Spanish authorities in 1609, and in 1631, the community was declared a free town called San Lorenzo de los Negros. The town was officially renamed Yanga in 1932 in honor of its founder. In Yanga, you can find the famous mural detailing the history of the town, a museum, and a central plaza with a monument of Yanga. Definitely make the trip if you find yourself in Veracruz.
