@blackboardguys: in this video i go over the proof that e is irrational, quite a fascinating intro to proofs. #math #fyp #relatable #proof #proofbasedmath #e #analysis

How would this situation change if n on the left side of the equation is less than q?

you can't really do that because e is not equal to the sum you wrote but to its limit One common way to prove e is irrational is to look at the difference between the Taylor series and the partial sum and then the contradiction is about finding and integer between 0 and 1

Doesn’t 1/(n+1)! multiplied by n! Simplify to 1/(n+1) ? The proof would still work but I’m wondering if I’ve made some mistake.

so worth the drive!! but isn’t n!/(n+1)!=1/n+1 and not 1/n? doesn’t change the consensus of proof tho

But the expression for e¹ is an infinite series. I don't think this proof considers how (1/(n+1)! + 1/(n+2)! + ...)n! may actually evaluate to an integer; just that the first of its terms, n!/(n+1)!, isn't.

I didn't even know that e had an expression . I juste though it was 1.6_____) at the power of x. Excellent teaching by the way . Even though I lack a lot of informations , I did understand the method and the way you did the absurd reflexion !

also it's interesting that the word “rational” comes from the Latin ratio, which originally meant proportion or ratio—not reason, as we understand it today. I read about it today in Symmetry by Hermann Weyl
