@sophia.esperanzaa: Ever been called an anti-something/someone? Something/someone - phobic? A something/someone hater? Just because you don’t share the same perspective? I have. & I’m not 🤲🏽 We’re allowed to challenge ideas, beliefs, governments, institutions, people, leaders, each-other, ourselves, actions done in the name of religion, interpretations, war, gen** ide, atrocities against humanity. Sure some people are hateful. Sure some people have phobias. But a disagreement isn’t an act of violence, nor does it mean someone is fearful. Many opinions: even if they make people uncomfortable…confront them & incite emotional reactions…challenge everything they’ve been taught & told their entire lives - doesn’t equate to hate speech. It just doesn’t. What we identify with, we’re most sensitive to. We tend to guard the most. We tend to take little to no opinions on. And anyone who comes and ‘pokes’ at these aspects of ourselves can be seen as mortal enemies. Some of the most ‘triggered’ moments of my life, where I boldly declared my disdain for something/someone/rejected & expelled certain opinions from my sphere - were areas I’d later in life realize were telling me a lot about myself in the moment. Funny how that works. Doxophobia the fear of expressing opinions for fear of being judged, rejected, mocked, or criticized…even praised.. The trepidation many of us sometimes feel for just speaking freely - is a marker of where we’re at as a world. I tried being more radically honest years ago & it felt so good. Freeing.
