I get why they think that way tbh. They think that because they're the preference, they'll be treated like the prize/trophy--placed on a pedestal and tended to, kept nice and shiny. But they seem to forget that most people don't have relationships with trophies; they have relationships with other people. After all, even if you're the trophy, who do you know that stops at one trophy? Most competitive people have several, and probably keep chasing more. Remember that.
