Hi, HIV scientist here. ART does not kill the virus as you mention at 1:34. ART keeps the virus suppressed. The reason to reactivate the virus (eg via mrna delivery since you chose to refer to that technology) is to make it visible to the immune system in order to kill it. Or even better, scientists are now exploring the combination of reactivating the virus first and then boost the immune system to kill it (known as ‘shock and kill’ strategies). There are many latency reversing agents already explored. But take home message is that ART does NOT kill the virus.
