@richard.degouveia: Morning light filtered through the bush at @sabisabireserve as we watched a young male leopard cub engage in an extended play session with his mother. At eight months old, he is reaching a stage of critical learning, and these playful interactions are about much more than just fun. Play is essential for his development. Through chasing, pouncing, stalking and wrestling, he is building the physical strength, coordination and reflexes he will need to survive as an adult. It is also a safe way for him to test his limits, understand social cues and sharpen his hunting instincts. The mother plays an active role in this process. By allowing, encouraging and sometimes gently disciplining him, she is preparing him for a life of independence where every decision could mean the difference between survival and failure. Watching these moments is always a privilege.
