Not really, Brussels has a typical Flemish architecture which is not present in Paris. It would’ve looked like more the Marais neighborhood in Paris without Haussmann

There is no sense to compare Brussels with Paris. The Haussman renovation was done to solve problems that the city of Paris was facing, not to give the city certain aesthetic. Paris was facing overcrowding due to the emigration to the cities. You had 8 people, for example, living in houses made for 3 people. Also you didnt have healthiness in the city. You had a medieval city during the contemporary times, and the haussman plan changed that. It modernised Paris, the goal wasn’t pure aesthetic. This plan introduced urban furniture, parks, modern sewerage, the haussmanian houses and other things in a big scale for the first time in Europe at least. There is no sense in making a comparison based in lookings because this plan had other goals

Napoleon III felt the narrow roads enabled the people in revolution. They could easily throw up barricades as they’d done in the past. He figured if he widened the roads and such it would be harder to get a revolution going against him. He still lost the throne though 🤷🏼♀️

Brussels architecture style is art nouveau, which was not Paris style before haussman because it was created after haussman. So no brussels is not what paris looked like before

not even remotely accurate. there were plenty of neoclassical buildings and baroque buildings in Paris... Brussels is a Flemish City it has sort of Dutch leanings... Paris never looked like that. there were still a lot of crumbling neglected medieval French buildings before Baron hausmann but it did not look like Brussels.
