The Winfield Tribune wrote this about his death: Death of Frank Pauley Tuberculosis claimed another victim this morning in the death of Mr. Frank Pauley, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Pauley, of this city, a claim which though not unexpected to the departed and those near and dear to him, lost none of its sting when the sad hour of parting came. For over a year Frank fought valiantly to overcome the dread disease, and in hopes of winning the victory he went to New Mexico last September and apart from home and friends spent the entire winter. It availed but little. He came home about a month ago with the death seal marked undeliably on his brow. He, as well as his friends, realized that his days were numbered. He grew worse and suffered greatly during the last week but death's release came comparatively easy this morning at twenty minutes past seven o'clock. He was conscious to the end. Frank was born in Pottowatomie county, Kansas, Sept. 29, 1890, and came here with his parents and sister, Jessie, about fifteen years ago. He was a bright lad and made many friends, as testified by the anxiety expressed during his illness and the general sorrow felt at his death.
