You are in Mira Flores, the elite area of all of Peru. Who is safe, however, travel outside of Mira Flores to Cercado de Lima or Callao. You will see a different picture. I live in and love Peru, but it is 3rd World.

Barranco, Miraflores, and a few other areas are among the safest spots in Lima. However, Miraflores has become a bit more dangerous recently. So it’s best to avoid going beyond those areas, as things can get more complicated.
