I always tell my clients “omg, im having so many thoughts right now im just figuring out which one i want to choose.” so I thought it would be cool to show you an additional layer of my thought process when im working with a parent now that we have run through more family therapy knowledge! This thread of thoughts is important, because we cannot be emotionally attuned to others while we cannot attune to ourselves, or at least there is a significant limit. So if a parent has a Self-neglecting relationship with themself, I need to begin my work by helping them connect with their Self and awareness of Self. That then supports awareness of Child’s internal processes. This is necessary for parents to understand their impact! Its also necessary for them to understand their own importance in their child’s life. I cannot tell you how many parents feel that their presence is irrelevant or meaningless, when that could not be farther from the truth!!
