Argentina abolished slavery in 1853. Black people were still ⅓ of the population. Fifty years later, they’d nearly vanished not by accident, but by policy. Sarmiento called it “gobernar es poblar.” History calls it what it was: engineered erasure. And in 1993, a sitting Argentine president stood in front of a Dutch audience and said “we don’t have blacks.” At Howard University, he called Blackness “a Brazilian problem.” That’s not ancient history that’s a head of state, on record, defending a myth built on a genocide. This World Cup, the rest of Latin America is singing “América Latina, menos Argentina” for a reason. You can erase a census.
