Its a lie. They scammed all those people into getting rid of perfectly fine machines. They do not use more energy... If they are. In good order there's no reason they shouldn't stay in service. Just like that whole cash for clunkers scam... They just wanted to get rid of certain makes and models of car. People. Fell for it.

I have a 1948 General Electric fridge in the basement kitchen that still works brilliantly. Now my main refrigerator in the kitchen has been replaced 3 times in 20 years

they tricked her to steal an antique from her and the other person! she could have sold it to a collector or even a refurbisher who would have given her thousands more for it!! and it was still working she did not need to even buy a new junk fridge that will not last 10 years.
